Geilo the Ski Town

Sweet little girl on the train to Geilo

I am in the quiet ski town of Geilo, staying at the beautiful, historic Dr. Holmes Hotel. I say “quiet” because it’s not ski season yet, so there are only about 25,000 residents right now, but that number swells to 40,000 in winter.

The houses and cabins here are painted in dark, earthy colours that blend in with the mountain landscape, and it’s obvious that this is an affluent community.

I feel surrounded by ski hills. There are 46 downhill runs and 20 lifts across both sides of the valleys here, plus three more ski resorts nearby.

I’ve spent a lot of time viewing the countless pictures and works of art here at the hotel. There is also a lot of beautiful antique furniture.

Tomorrow: Oslo via a longer route (long story)…

This is absolutely amazing!

I started with a doggie picture so I’ll end with one too.
