Keflavik: One Last Stop

When I planned this trip, I realized I’d have to take a taxi from Reykjavík to the airport—an hour-long drive—because there was no airport bus early enough for my flight. That could have easily cost me a couple hundred dollars, so instead I booked a seaside hotel in the small town of Keflavík, not far from the airport.

The owner seemed to really like me and put me in a room with a great ocean view. It was the same huge corner room, with two picture windows, where chess champion Bobby Fischer stayed during the 1972 World Chess Championship. Very cool! And there are Northern Lights!

I set out to explore and found a quiet, tidy little town with a lovely oceanfront walk—perfect for decompressing after six weeks of traveling solo.

On my walk I found the Giantess’s cave.

Giant footsteps led me to the Giantess’s cave.

Along with a giant bed, toothbrush, dress, and slippers, there was a pacifier tree where toddlers can leave their soothers when they’re ready to give them up.

After, I actually hiked up the hill above the cave and took in the panorama.

Goodbye Iceland!
