I had planned to walk to the Jektevik Ferry Terminal from my hotel, but that was before I actually arrived at the hotel and discovered that the vast majority of the streets and sidewalks in the vicinity are cobblestone, many downright jagged and bumpy. So, this morning, I had a conversation with the front desk attendant (completely in Norwegian) asking for her recommendations. I didn’t want to blow a suitcase wheel this early in my journey!

After our conversation, I settled on a “fairly smooth” route and walked the short 1½ kilometres to the terminal. Unlike the crowds of people I saw piling into taxicabs at the hotel, I actually needed to get some walking in before embarking on lazy ship life.

Once on board, we weren’t allowed into our rooms for two hours, so I managed to meet some new people and get acquainted. Bonus on this cruise- no kids.

I am very pleased with my room. It has a good-sized window that Hilda, my emotional-support chicken, can look out. I’ve already had a meal that can best be described as healthy gourmet. I think I can get used to this life!
I just hope I don’t get seasick! 🤢
