I’ve had three busy days with a lot of walking in Bergen, so I’m looking forward to putting my sore feet up when I board the Hurtigruten tomorrow.
The streets in the area around me are all cobblestone, with many narrow walkways flanked by heritage homes on either side. These homes are impeccably kept, often with beautiful flower pots by the front door.

I’m also just one short block from the harbour, my favourite place to sit and eat lunch.

I found the Fisketorget (fish market) and Bryggen (the historic, iconic harbour district) to be extremely touristy and busy. Away from the crowds, I visited the delightful Troll Museum. I learned about trolls in Norwegian culture, from folk tales to the works of icons like Ibsen and Grieg. There was even an interactive display about Peer Gynt.

I took the cable car up Ulriken. At 643 metres, it’s the highest of the seven mountains surrounding Bergen. For the record, I do not like heights, so this was definitely outside my comfort zone.

At the top, I managed to venture near the mountain’s edge to take a picture. To my surprise, I found a Norwegian woman sitting right at the edge of the cliff — KNITTING!

I also visited other places, including Akvariet (the aquarium) and Bergenhus Fortress.

16,000 steps a day, sore feet, and so many wonderful memories.
